Because AI tools build their picture of your brand from what other people have written about you. Coverage no longer just brings visitors. It teaches the systems that recommend products that your brand exists and what it is known for.
Digital PR is the work of earning mentions and coverage in places that carry weight, using real stories rather than press releases sent to a purchased list.
For a store it does three things at once. It brings buyers directly. It adds the third party authority that search engines weigh. And it adds to the pool of writing that AI tools read when deciding which brands to name.
What Makes a Story a Journalist Will Actually Use?
Something true, specific and new that is not about your company. Product launches and funding news are almost never enough on their own.
The common thread is that all five give something away rather than asking for something. That is the whole difference between coverage that lands and a press release that is deleted.
Which Publications Are Worth Targeting for a Store?
The ones your buyers read and the ones that get quoted. Those are increasingly the same list, because AI tools tend to draw on sources that are widely cited.
The instinct is to aim at the largest publication possible. A mention in a national newspaper feels like the win. In practice a specialist publication in your category is often worth more, because it is read by people who are about to buy and it is treated as an authority on your specific subject.
We build a target list in three tiers. Specialist publications and respected blogs in your category. Broader consumer and business publications where your story could reach. And the comparison sites, roundups and community discussions where buying decisions are actually made.
The third tier is the one most PR work ignores and it is often the highest value for a store, because a place in a well read roundup of the best products in your category sits directly in the buying path.
How Do You Get Into Best Of Roundups?
By finding the roundups that already rank for your category searches, working out what they require, and giving the writer a reason and a way to include you.
Roundup articles are a distinct target and deserve their own approach. Somebody wrote a list of the best products in your category, it ranks well, buyers read it, and AI tools quote it. Being absent from it costs you continuously.
The work is unglamorous. Find every roundup ranking for your main category searches. Check whether it is updated, who maintains it, and what the inclusion criteria appear to be. Then make contact with something genuinely useful, whether that is a sample, a correction, a better specification, or a product they have not seen.
Some will never include you. Enough will that this is usually one of the highest return activities available to a store, and almost nobody does it systematically.
How Is Digital PR Reported and What Should You Expect?
One to four earned placements a month depending on your level, reported with the publication, the link, what it says about you, and whether the description matches your standard one.
The last part is unusual and it matters. A placement that describes your brand differently from every other mention is a missed opportunity, because consistency is one of the things that shapes how AI tools summarise you. So we track wording, not just links.
Expectations should be honest. Some months produce nothing, because a story did not land or a journalist moved on. Averaged over a quarter the numbers hold, but anyone promising a fixed number every single month is either buying placements or counting things that do not deserve to be counted.
Where a publication charges for placement, we tell you the cost before committing and pass it through with no markup. Some good publications do charge, and pretending otherwise is not honest.
